Miss Lou for National Hero -

We have a tendency to amass praise and great accolades to people after they die! Im therefore glad that Miss Lou, the Hon. Louise Bennett Coverley, did hear from Jamaicans and from people around the world that she was valued, respected and loved. I am glad also that she heard the LOUD call from the people and from the stage at Emancipation Park in August of 2003 for her to be accorded the status of National Hero.

Her life's work has done so much to enrich humanity; she has given voice to those whose voices could not be heard, and identified the self-worth that was being suppressed by colonial history along with its systems of governance and learning.

Because of Miss Lou a people began to speak and hear themselves with pride. She has given wings to Bob Marley and Sean Paul, to Oku Onuora, Mutabaruka and Fae Ellington, Oliver Samuels and Leonie Forbes. She has given voice and pride to every likkle Jamaican Pickney!

Is there another Jamaican who has single-handedly done so much for Ja?

Jamaica has seven National Heroes: Paul Bogle, Sir Alexander Bustamante, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, George William Gordon, Norman Washington Manley, Nanny of The Maroons, and Sam Sharp.

Should Miss Lou be added to this list of Heroes?
